This Matters Now
Local employers are signaling sustained demand for skilled talent, while many learners still lack a simple path to paid or for-credit experiences that lead to local jobs. R.I.S.E. closes that gap by aligning K-12 and postsecondary education with area employers around a shared, low-friction process. The initiative starts from today’s partnerships and expands steadily as habits form, handoffs become consistent, and progress is visible to all.
What is RISE Caldwell–Watauga?
RISE (Regional Initiative for Skilled Employment) Caldwell–Watauga brings together schools, colleges, employers, and community partners to build a homegrown talent pipeline. Through paid, hands-on experiences and supports that remove barriers, RISE helps students earn credentials, gain confidence, and step into meaningful careers—right here at home.

“Why did you choose Registered Apprenticeship?
I chose to do the Registered Apprenticeship because I want a successful career in the hospitality industry; therefore, this program gave me a chance to jump-start my career path.”

“How do you envision the RISE program transforming the economic and educational landscape of Caldwell and Watauga Counties over the next five years?”
”I have some exciting dreams for this project. Over the next five years, I picture us having participants who not only complete their work-based learning but also earn credentials that open the door to full-time employment after their apprenticeship. I look forward to seeing many of our former participants step into entry-level leadership roles, earning enough to meet their needs and truly thrive financially, benefiting both them and their families. This program can help our youth stand out among other applicants who might otherwise have been overlooked because of their age or lack of experience. With a solid foundation of education and credentials, they’ll also gain confidence, which will shine through both personally and professionally. Economically, my hope is to help meet the needs of our business community by filling open roles, nurturing future leaders from within, and fostering local talent. This successful approach could reduce turnover and support long-term staff retention, creating a stronger work environment. ”
